Japanese Original Woodblock Print Triptych by Utagawa Kunisada - 'Nenohi matsu futaba no ei' 子ノ日松二葉之栄 (Prosperity of the Two Leaf Pine on the Day of the Rat) - 1856

Size: Height 35.6cm, width 24.4cm

Step into the past with Utagawa Kunisada (1786 – 1865), also known as Toyokuni III, the eminent figure in the realm of ukiyo-e during 19th-century Japan. Surpassing contemporaries like Hokusai, Hiroshige, and Kuniyoshi in both popularity and commercial success, Kunisada's art vividly encapsulates the essence of life and culture during the Edo period.

"The Glory of the Young Pine on the Day of the Rat" is an exquisite woodblock print trio from 1856 by Kunisada. This masterpiece revolves around the traditional celebration of Children's Day, known as Tango no Sekku, observed on the 5th day of the 5th month of the lunar calendar. Dedicated to the health and success of young boys, the title references the old lunar calendar's Day of the Rat, symbolizing growth and prosperity akin to a young pine reaching new heights.

The print is in excellent condition, with minor stains and a small tear on the edge. Please refer to the provided photos.

The triptych is not attached and consists of three independent single prints.
