Large Tibetan Wooden Ritual Tibetan Buddhist Mask with Beautiful Patina - XIXth Century

Size: 33cm high, 30cm wide, 10cm deep

Very good condition.

Large Wooden Ritual Tibetan Mask in the form of a wild boar head. Nice patina.

Object literature: The mask represents a divinity in the form of a wild boar symbolising relentless power to achieve liberation overcoming all obstacles. These type of religious masks are generally used in religious dance festivals (Cham) and they are regarded as a form of sculpture. The crown of five small skulls represent five negative human feelings (rage, ignorance, jealousy, attachment and pride) which the divinity turns into the opposite positive ones. The colour red represents bravery, intelligence and the ability to use strategy to conquer or advise others.

Object history: From an old Italian collection, subsequently bought at San Giorgio Auction House
