Magnificent Bronze Statue of Wrathful Deity Yamantaka Vajrabhairava (Yamantaka) with Consort Vajravetali - Nepal - 20th century

Condition: Very good condition. Wear due to age and use. Minor chips and cracks.

Description: Vajrabhairava and Vajravetali depicted in ecstatic union and standing in Alidhasana on trampled figures atop a lotus base, the thirty-four-armed yidam portrayed with a fierce buffalo head with fiery tresses coiled into thick ropes, further rendered with six fierce human faces around the back and surmounted by another fierce human face and the head of Manjushri.

Object literature: Yamāntaka (Sanskrit) or Vajrabhairava (Tibetan) is the "destroyer of death" deity of Vajrayana Buddhism. Sometimes he is conceptualised as the "conqueror of the lord of death". Of the several deities in the Buddhist pantheon named 'Yamāntaka', the most well known, also called as 'Vajrabhairava' belongs to the Anuttarayoga Tantra class of deities popular within the Gelug lineagel of Tibetan Buddhism.
