Japanese Ukiyo-e Prints of Sumo Wrestlers, Utagawa Kunisada - XIX Century

Size: Height 34.5cm, width 22.5cm

Japanese Edo period ukiyo-e woodblock prints of champion sumo wrestler, vertical oban tate-e, ink and colour on paper (nishike-e) by Utagawa Kunisada.

Object literature: Utagawa Kunisada ( 1786 –1865), also known as Utagawa Toyokuni III, was the most popular, prolific and commercially successful Japanese designer of Ukyio-e prints in 19th-century. In his own time, his reputation far exceeded that of his contemporaries Hokusai, Hiroshige and Kuniyoshi.
