Very large standing patinated bronze Dancing Tara, from Nepal 20th Century. Tara is the main Goddess in Himalayan Buddhism; a symbol of peace, wisdom and enlightenment. The right hand in Karana Mudra is a symbolical protection to keep demons and other negative influences at bay, the left is in Vitaka Mudra, a gesture of supreme generosity.

Object literatureAccording to Vajrayana Buddhism, Tara is a completely enlightened Buddha who typically appears in the form of a beautiful youthful woman sixteen years of age.
