A steep path leads upwards past the castle of the Ishikawa, with the town of Kameyama in the valley to the left. The people ascending the path are probably taking part in a daimyo procession to the capital Edo. The sky is red from the early morning sun. A strip of blue is printed in bokashi along the upper edge of the print.
Object Literature: Utagawa Hiroshige was born in Edo in 1797, his first name was Tokutaro. Hiroshige and Hokusai are generally regarded as the two leading landscape artists in Japanese printmaking.
